World Tourism Day is celebrated on the 27th of September every year. There’s a great significance to this day being celebrated, as it makes people aware of the value of tourism and its impact.
The World Tourism Day theme for this year (2023) is “Tourism And Green Investments”. The theme throws light on the need to promote more sustainable development and apply it in the practices of the travel industry. It also indicates the need for more investments in the sector of tourism to generate more jobs.
The celebration is about to take place in this year’s host country – Saudi Arabia, for the celebration of the event.
The United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) is going to welcome all the representatives from hundreds of Member States. The event is also going to be attended by over 50 Tourism Ministers – from the Middle East region and also globally.
General Zurab Pololikashvili (Secretary General of UNWTO) said:
“Tourism has never been more important for our economies or for our societies. Its potential is enormous. And so on this World Tourism Day, we celebrate tourism’s ability to drive growth while also highlighting the vital need for investments to ensure such growth is inclusive and sustainable.”
